Born and raised a riverbank away from the birthplace of Motown, prolific Canadian singer-songwriter Soul Brother Mike has a lifetime of immersion in classic soul and R&B music. With over a decade of experience crafting and performing intelligent, compelling songs, Mike continues to re-define the sound of Canadian independent music.
Mike's solo career began with the limited release of his debut album 'Off Mike' in 2015, revealing his unique creative vision. With influences from throughout history, the sound was primarily 2000s pop/RnB/soul. This was further developed in two releases in 2017, "Learn To Vibe" in May, Mike's first widely distributed album, and a winter-time release: "Soulstice".
The next few years were put on hold. Mike had his first child with his wife, and singer-songwriter, Crissi Cochrane and moved into a new home. Mike began developing an 8 member soul band called The Family Soul, produced an album for Crissi titled "Heirloom", and began laying the ground work for a new type of music label, Soul City Music Co-op.
2020 saw the complete shut-down of the music industry internationally, and yet it was one of busiest years in Mike's career. Soul City Music Co-op was launched on January 1st, followed shortly by "Heirloom". The Family Soul released "Give It More Try", a 4 song EP, in June. And four singles were released by Soul Brother Mike, starting with the political, "Baby I Want A Change", follwed by a re-work of Crissi's "Heaven", followed by another thought provoking single "Until It Happens To You", and a feel good christmas bop, "The Christmas Feeling", closed out the year.
While 2021 carries over the pandemic gloom of 2020, Soul Brother Mike is set to have another busy year. "Headspace", a collection of psychological work songs, will be released on July 13, 2021. "If We Can Be Friends", a non-partisan anthem, will be the first single to arrive on March 12th, and Mike plans to flood the dance floor with head fog with the May 14th release of a second singe: "Head In The Clouds".
